What Is A Fertility Doula?

The term "Doula" has long been associated with a Birth Doula, someone who is trained to support a mother during the birthing process.  A "Fertility Doula" is similar in that we provide emotional and informational support to others but in the preconception phase specifically, offering support and guidance in order to achieve your fertility goals.

I am 10 years past my struggles with fertility and over that time we have been very open about the fact we struggled. I am often surprised about the number of people we have met who have opened up about their own journey. Not long into the conversation I hear the most common confession, "it was a very lonely journey" or "I felt so alone". It's true.  Sadly, it is true. So what is a Fertility Doula? What do I see my role being? Someone to walk along side, someone to hold space without judgement, and someone to listen who is one step removed. Who else can you call and be excited about a shift in your body temperature?

What A Fertility Doula Is Not

- A Fertility Doula does not have medical training therefore cannot and does not provide any physical exams or diagnosis.

- A Fertility Doula is not a clinical counsellor unless credentials are listed as such.

- A Fertility Doula does not replace the role of a medical professional, naturopath, or other healthcare professionals with specialized training.
